Privacy Policy

McMindmap is in Open Beta. We use your data only to run McMindmap for you. We do not sell it, we show no ads, we do not track you, we build no profiles of you, and we do not use your notes to train AI.

1. Who We Are

McMindmap is a knowledge management tool — a desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux) and a web app. It is a personal project, run by the person named in the Impressum, who is responsible for the processing of your data. For questions, contact [email protected].

2. Open Beta

McMindmap is currently an Open Beta: it is free to try, it may still have bugs, and features may change. Please keep a copy of anything important — the desktop app keeps your notes as files on your own computer, and every mind map can be downloaded as a ZIP.

3. Data We Collect

Account information — username, profile picture and user ID from the sign-in provider you choose (Google, Apple, GitHub, LinkedIn or Discord)
Email address — only if you add and verify one in your account settings
Content you upload — mind maps, topics, pictures and links you save to the cloud or share
Server logs — IP address, the address requested, the time and the browser, needed to run the service and keep it secure
Feedback — what you write in the feedback form, and the email address you give there

We do not collect passwords — sign-in is handled by your provider. We use no analytics or tracking tools.

The desktop app: notes in your workspace folder stay on your computer. They leave it only when you upload or share a mind map.

4. How We Use Your Data

Only to:

Provide and run McMindmap — store your content, sync it between your devices, and show it to the people you share it with
Sign you in and keep your account secure
Show your username and profile picture to others where you share or publish content
Prevent abuse and keep the service stable
Send you emails you asked for (a verification code) and important notices about the service — no newsletters, no marketing

Legal basis: providing the service you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), keeping it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).

5. Public vs. Private Content

Mind maps you mark as public can be seen by any McMindmap user and may appear in search results. Private mind maps are visible only to you and the people you share them with. You can change this at any time in the app.

6. Service Providers

We do not sell or rent your data. To run McMindmap we use these providers, who process data only on our behalf:

Supabase — database and file storage
DigitalOcean — the server that runs McMindmap
Resend — sending emails (verification codes, account notices, feedback)
Sign-in providers — Google, Apple, GitHub, LinkedIn or Discord, only the one you choose

We disclose data to authorities only where the law requires it.

7. Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in (HTTP-only session cookies). No advertising, analytics or third-party tracking cookies are set.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete Account) — this removes your account and everything of yours on our servers. Notes in your workspace folder on your own computer are not touched.

To exercise your rights, contact [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority.

9. Data Retention

We keep your data as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your account and content are deleted from our servers; backups may keep them for up to 30 days. Server logs are kept only as long as needed to run the service and keep it secure.

10. If McMindmap Ends

McMindmap is a beta and a personal project. If it is discontinued, we will announce it in the app — and by email if you verified one — at least 30 days in advance. During that time you can download all your mind maps as ZIP files. After that, all accounts and all data on our servers will be deleted. Notes on your own computer stay yours, untouched.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. We will announce important changes in the app. The date above shows the latest version.
